Will you marry me?

Looking at the in-flight magazine, I noticed some statistics that I found very interesting.
63% of men say it's okay for women to pop the question.
55% of women say is okay for women to pop the question.
64% of men say they would accept a marriage proposal from a woman.
31% of women say they would propose to a man.

As I digested these statistics, I found myself thinking like Carrie Bradshaw on Sex in the City. Are these legitimate? Do they really represent the male and female opinion? Well, it's nice to think they do, but I think it's a bunch of bunk. Men are scared spitless of women who take the lead. They might not admit it in a survey, but reality says an intellectual and independent woman might be more likely to be car-jacked than have a marriage proposal accepted. What is it about women taking the initiative in relationships that freaks men out? I don't get it. Shouldn't it take the pressure off of them? Isn't that what they're always whining about. . .that dating and relationships are too stressful because they always have to take the lead? Tell you what--I want a man with enough confidence and dignity to recognize that my brains, independence, and competancy make me more attractive--not the other way around. As soon as I find him, I'm popping the question.
