Where in the world is Michelle Virtue?
Our TV is on the fritz. It has been for over two weeks. Kimmy and I don't really have a lot of time to watch it anyway, but it's nice to have the option. You know, the occassional Friends/Seinfeld re-run--maybe a little Iron Chef or What not to wear. ANYTHING! As a result, my only connection to the outside world comes in the early morning hours when I'm at the gym. I can't tell you how excited I get when the announcer welcomes me to 'Today' and my old friends Matt & Katie greet me from Rockefeller Center. This morning I was fascinated by the first installment in Matt's annual special "where in the world is ML?" His first stop this week was Easter Island. I've heard of this secluded island in the Pacific, but knew little about the draw to this far away and somewhat isolated place. I was intrigued by the moai (pronounced moe-eye) or stone monoliths along the coastline that the natives carved from volcanic stone. There are hundred of them on the beautiful beaches of Easter Island. Each looking. . .waiting for something that never seems to come. I'm a dork, I know, but I kind of felt sorry for them. Sometimes I feel like a moai--stagnant. . .watching. . .waiting. Jordan Cox told us yesterday in conference that we needed to KEEP MOVING. Moving physically, spiritually, socially, intellectually. . .So, this morning when I left for work, I pulled out the magnetic Scrabble letters and spelled out "keep moving." It's our unofficial motto. . .at least for today. Those that stop moving become like the moai--always watching and waiting, but never moving and achieving.
