Coloring In the Lines

It's an exciting week for mothers everywhere--kids are heading back to school. My favorite mother of 5 sounds blissfully happy. . .though I know that deep down she misses her 4 school-aged angels.

Little Ali is starting Kindergarten this year. It seems impossible that she will be turning 5 next week. Where does the time go? Lori told me today that Ali's new teacher asked the class to "color in the lines." Watch out, Ali--it's the beginning of the end. Why do we have to color in the lines anyway? Shouldn't that Kindergarten teacher be nurturing the imaginations of impressionable 5 year olds? They're going to be coloring in the lines for the rest of their lives--conforming to the world's norms. Heavens--they're 5, let them live a little.

I'll tell you one thing--my kids can color in, out, through, or around the lines. Be FREE--Be CREATIVE--Be AMAZING. . .just don't color on walls, carpet, grandma, clothing, yourself or others. How's that for a great mom?

Ali (a.k.a. Judy)--you're the cutest kindergarten diva I know. You show them who's boss, sister!
