Venice and Trio's

If you've ever spent any amount of time studying the work of a true artist, you will understand that the communication of mood, implication, and purpose is almost sacred. Some art is lovely, but it I don't love it. Some art draws me into its story from across the room.

We spend some time at a reception for the opening of an art show featuring the work of Justin Hayward--a fellow Loveless & Friends NCAA competitor. I met Justin a few months ago and am in awe of his work. His portraits and landscapes are especially wonderful. Tonight I fell in love with his piece simply titled "Venice." Maybe my next trip, huh? The good news for Justin is that Venice has been sold. The bad news for Michelle is that I'm not the new owner.

Justin is not only talented, but he's a genuinely good person with a sense of humor and a good head on his shoulders. He is going places!

After the amazing art we were hoping for some equally amazing food. We found it. New restaurant recommendation for the SLC area--Trio's at 380 South and 900 East. The food was wonderful. . .loved the rosemary flatbread with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and roasted tomatoes. The carbonara pasta. . .fabulous! It was refreshing to go to a restaurant and not worry about being rushed through the dining process. It seems like we're always in a hurry to get to the restaurant, sit at the table, order, eat our food, pay the check and run. Tonight we just enjoyed the fabulous summer evening on the Trio's patio. L#1 will find this tidbit of Trio's Trivia interesting--apparently the three men who own the restaurant undertook a significant remodel of the space formerly occupied by Eclipse, whose owners originally opened The Dodo in that same space back in the '70s. Yep--you heard that right--the Dodo (152 S 400 W). Next trip to Salt Lake. . .dinner at the Dodo!

p.s. a HUGE 40th birthday shout out to THE DEAN. Hope it was a great one!

Uhm, I've eaten at the Dodo. It was okay, not my fave. Maybe it was what I ordered which I don't even remember right now, or maybe it was that this guy Ben, who couldn't get over the fact that we weren't dating, nor had we ever been dating, nor would we ever be dating was there with us and he just kept staring at me that from accross the little table, giving me this evil-pathetic look, like I had wronged him in some way. I don't even know how it was that he was with us that night, since I was with a group of girlfriends that he didn't know. Weird. He always just showed up somehow.

Oh, and Happy Birthday Dean-o! I would have sent you some Krispy Kreames but my husband didn't tell me you were having a birthday. Good thing for this blog or I would never know what was going on.
